For the health of your kidneys, start your day with a cup of water, this is the slogan chosen to celebrate the 9th World Kidney Day. Through this symbolic gesture, we are all invited to think of our kidneys. The specialists are denouncing the "lack awareness on kidney diseases", while the latter "could be slowed down or even halted" if they were detected early.

Start your day with a cup of water for the health of your kidneys"Approximately 600 million people in the world suffer from some form of chronic kidney disease", disease that could "increase of 17 per cent over the next decade.

The renal disease is widespread, it has adverse effects, but can be treated. This is the message that the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), co-organizer of this World Kidney Day wishes to pass and get across.

 

The kidneys do not escape the aging.

It is as well as the incidence of chronic kidney disease increases with age, even if they can occur at any age: nearly half of people of more than 75 years show "a certain degree of chronic kidney disease".  It is important to know that in addition to the aging of the kidneys, the factors contributing to damage the kidneys are more frequent and common among seniors: diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases.

What are the consequences of chronic kidney disease?

"It increases the risk of heart attack and stroke, and in some cases, may progress and evolve into a chronic renal failure requiring dialysis or a transplant ", explains the ISN. However detected in time and supported appropriately, this affection can be braked, or even stopped.

A blood and urine test are sufficient to detect in time a renal disease ...

In practice, elderly people should be encouraged to pass a simple blood and urine test screening in order to detect incipient chronic kidney disease.

Do not hesitate to talk to your doctor and encourage your entourage to drink a cup of water for a good start of the day and thus protect his kidneys ...
